The Year Begins.

It’s incredible to me that we can watch this video on youtube, during the conflict in the Gaza Strip, while the cameras and crew are actually in the war zone. Al Jazeera English is priceless.

Ghost Ride The News’ own news correspondent, Edip Kemal, sent me these stories of America’s Constitution-Free Zone from the ACLU blog, Israel is confirmed to be using cluster bombs in Gaza by the Israeli press, and a cool story from the Americans for Middle East Understanding blog.

Cluster bombs. They sound like they could be some kind of delicious granola cereal, but they aren’t. Cluster bombs are one of those things that will make the next civilization to study ours have to stop and say, “What.. In the fuck.” They are shameful and disgusting little objects, and all of the world has banned them except for the U.S. and Israel. I just don’t get it. Here’s a photo and description that I found on Mennonite Central Committee. (?)

“A cluster bomb is a small explosive submunition or bomblet that is delivered to its target in a large canister or shell.

Cluster bombs are indiscriminate. They cannot distinguish between civilian and military targets. Their wide-area coverage and poor targeting mechanisms nearly guarantee that unintended victims will die or be injured, even when the weapons function as designed.

Cluster munitions continue to kill long after a war ends because these weapons often fail to explode on impact as designed.”
